LMEC - Looking Ahead
LMEC is entering 2010 at a very exciting time in the Leicester City BSF programme. We are awaiting Local Authority approval on proposals for the redevelopment of two of Leicester’s Secondary Schools, namely Rushey Mead School and Crown Hills Community College and have just begun development work on the The City of Leicester College.
Rushey Mead School
At Rushey Mead School, LMEC have managed to develop proposals which will deliver 70% of the school area as new build, against an original plan of 32% new build and 39% refurbishment. In respect of sustainability our proposals are targeting BREEAM very good and thanks to a £1million grant secured by the Leicester City Council we are delivering a carbon saving of 349 tonnes of carbon p.a., which equates to a reduction of 53.79% against 2002 Building Regulations.
Another key feature of the design is the 6 court sports hall, which will substantially enhance the schools sports facilities and will also provide the local community with a fabulous facility.
Crown Hills Community College
For Crown Hills Community College LMEC have been able to develop a 100% new build proposal from funding made available which was originally envisaged could provide 62% new build and 38% refurbishment. In respect of sustainability, our proposals are targeting BREEAM excellent and thanks to carbon 60 funding from Central Government, we are achieving a carbon saving of 401 tonnes of carbon p.a., which equates to a reduction of 74.57% against 2002 building regulations.
In addition to the above, thanks to a grant from the England and Wales Cricket Board, we are developing an 8 court sports hall which will service the school and also operate as a centre of excellence for cricket out of hours.
City of Leicester College
Development has just begun on this exciting project, which will be a 100% new build school and will be targeting BREEAM excellent and a carbon 60 reduction.
Future Projects
LMEC are currently supporting Leicester City Council in obtaining the necessary approvals to progress the remainder of the Leicester BSF programme, so we hope to have many more of Leicester City’s schools undergoing the design phase of redevelopment before the end of the year.
