Chairman's Update
As I write this update all systems are on go to move forward with the major part of the Building Schools for the Future programme.
Four new excellent schools have already been delivered and the very positive and gratifying praise for the product which we have been able to deliver has been extremely pleasing. Following the handover of the Second Phase of Fullhurst Community College together with, more recently, the splendid Beaumont Leys, Judgemeadow and Soar Valley Schools, the whole team can see the fruits of their labours. Even more rewarding was to see Beaumont Leys School receive the prize of best BSF school in the recent national awards in London and then taking the Grand Prix prize.
The BSF "team" have co-located with the City Council Transforming the Learning Environment team at Sovereign House in Leicester and the shortening lines of communication and close working are showing clear dividends.
Much is made about the importance of the physical environment to improving education. No one can doubt that it is just one part of the equation, but visiting the new facilities, speaking to staff, pupils, parents and Governors, no one should be in any doubt as to the massive contribution that a top quality working environment can give. The Building Schools for the Future programme is undoubtedly the major regeneration project in the City and a visit to see what has been achieved so far is a very uplifting experience.
All of those involved in this massive project face many challenges to deliver on our commitment to excellence in Leicester's Secondary Schools, but we are confident of achieving just that.
